Tips and tricks

New to Maketoo or want to make the most of it? These tips will get you a long way.

Your first day

When signing up, choose “Surprise me” until you have a character you like; you can always change it later via Me > Character.
Your house is ready: click “My house” in the bar or “Home” at the bottom left.
In your Stuff there is already a chair, table, plant, lamp, rug, fridge, cooker and bed. Click Decorate and place them.
Follow the orange signposts on the square to the districts and look at your neighbours’ houses.

Log in every day: you get free play money, and the more days in a row, the bigger the bonus.
Do your three daily tasks every day (Tasks in the bar): together with the bonus that’s about £0.17 play money a day.
Tidy your house, put the rubbish bags in your wheelie bin and put it out on Tuesday for the bin lorry.
Go to school: every correct answer earns play money and a passed test much more. Learn together in class for a team bonus.
Bowl, jump and play in the bowling alley, the trampoline park and the playground: there you earn play money by playing.
Choose a job right away under Work: being a jobseeker earns the least. A programmer, vet or builder earns the most.
Wages arrive on the 20th of the month, but only if you were in town that month.
Rent out your house as a holiday home when you’re away for a while: the rent is yours and afterwards everything is put back.
Buy a house cheaply, furnish it nicely and sell it furnished for a higher price.

You rotate with the R key or the Rotate button.
You can put other things on tables, chests, desks and worktops: stacking is allowed.
You add a new room under My house. You get a door for it in your Stuff: put it in the hall to walk to the new room.
Choose per room who may come in: everyone, only friends, with a password or nobody.
You change the floor and wall colour under Settings.

Click on a fridge and choose what to take. Raw things (egg, batter, vegetables, meat) you cook on a cooker.
Click on yourself or use the button next to the chat to eat or drink.
Is your energy low? Lie down in a bed or have a cup of coffee in the café.
Mood up: dance, roll dice, watch TV from the sofa, play the piano or sit in the hot tub.
Social: talk to others. Sitting at home alone makes you lonely.

You buy dogs and cats in the Shop under Animals.
You walk a dog: click on your dog and choose “Walk on the lead”. It walks with you, outside too.
Cats go outside on their own and come back home by themselves. Have a look around your district!
Animals that meet each other play together. Anyone can stroke them.

Viewing is always allowed, even if a house is locked, as long as it’s for sale or rent.
When renting, the tenant pays £0.01 for the final cleaning; you get the rest.
A tenant may move everything and make a mess; afterwards everything is exactly as it was again.
Selling your only house? Then you get a new empty house straight away and your animals move with you.

Click on someone to whisper, become friends, give something or trade.
Write something nice in someone’s guestbook via their profile.
Never share your password, address or phone number, not even with the police or the town hall.
Is someone being annoying? Click on that person and choose “Report to the police”. The last chat lines are included.
Your profile only goes on the internet if you switch that on yourself under “Edit profile”.

Just type: you go into the chat automatically. Enter sends, “Shout” makes your message big.
Zoom with two fingers (pinch) on phone and tablet, with the scroll wheel, the + and − buttons or the + and − keys. ⤢ shows the whole room and ◎ finds your own character. Dragging moves the view.
Esc stops placing. The “Conversation” button at the bottom right shows older messages.
The socks button makes a mess in your house (handy for a party); click on mess to tidy it up.
